Absentee Heritage Bank MD, Ifie Sekibo returns to work

Ifie Sekibo, MD, Heritage Bank of Nigeria

A couple of weeks ago, the head honcho of Heritage Bank of Nigeria, Ifie Sekibo was widely reported to have been absent from work since January, and his absence was largely attributed to ill health.

However, Heritage bank neither debunked Sekibo's alleged ill health as reason for his absence nor even acknowledged that he was an absentee MD,  a silence which many have concluded means the bank's confirmation of the reports, as the bank was never known to fire back at media accusations.

The out of sight bank boss is now said to have resumed at his duty post according to new reports and bank sources, although his coming to work is described as on and off.

One of the first public assignments of the recently resumed MD was at the event where the bank lavished millions of Naira on the top 5 finalists of the just concluded immorality show Big Brother Naija which it was a major financier.

The on-and-off MD was also spotted recently during a visit to Triton Aqua Africa Limited, following a N2 billion facility the bank gave the company last year.

During Sekibo's absence, a staff of the bank named Mary Akpobome who is the wife of a comedian, took over the bank's administration.

Meanwhile, Heritage Bank in recent months has been the butts of many business jokes as the firm has been engulfed in series of unpalatable scandals from allegations of undergoing distress to mass retrenchment, mismanagement and outright stealing of depositor’s funds and customers taking the bank to court over their money being trapped with the bank.

It would be recalled that in March, an Abuja company petitioned the Federal High Court and the Central Bank of Nigeria to liquidate Heritage Bank of Nigeria on account of its inability to meet customers’ demands.

Geonel Integrated Services Limited, a security services company, claimed it has over N1.8billion and another $85,859 trapped in various Heritage Bank accounts.
