Court places suspension on DSTV's increase in subscription fees

Following the March announcement of 20% price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, owners of DStv, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has restrained the company from increasing the tariffs.

According to Multichoice, the said increase which was supposed to take effect from April 1st, was necessary for them to continue offering good quality programming to its subscribers.

The restraining order was given at the court following a class action suit filed by two Lagos-based lawyers, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji, challenging the increase.

The increase has been put on hold until the court meets on April 16th to hear the case.
