Folks Idols Africa Talent Show unveiled

Are you an African? Do you think you have Folk/Dramatic musical talent? Sign up for the folk Idols Africa Talent Show audition to be held January 17th to 18th @ Sandralia Luxury Hotel, 1 Solomon Lar War, Utako, Abuja and January 24th to 25th @ Lagos Television, Agidingbi Road, Ikeja from 9am – 8 pm. Please read the rules and fill out the entry form found on the website www.folkafricana.com or pick up an entry form at Silverbird Cinemas in Lagos & Abuja.  Entries close by midnight January 14th, 2015. Ten contestants from the preliminaries will be selected to compete in the grand-finale Saturday January 31st 2015@ the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos.

The winner of the Talent Show goes home with N1, 000,000.00+ Round trips to Texas to perform. The 1st runner up will take home N500, 000.00 while the 2nd runner up will receive N250, 000.00. All top 10 contestants will receive consolation prizes. Other benefits include possibility of foreign trips, a chance to mentor other talented youths, emergence as legends of cultural integration and ambassadors of folkAfricana. Entry is Free.

ELIGIBILITY RULES AND REQUIREMENT

1. Open to all ages.
2. Contestant must be an African.
3. Contestant must be available to attend the 3 days of competition if necessary.
4. Contestant can choose to perform in the following areas only: Folk/Dramatic Music, Local/percussion Instrumental Music, Voice Solo and accompaniment (In all the stages of the competition and is required to showcase creativity).

5. The judges' decision is final. Contestants will be judged on the following:
a. Technique and natural ability.
b. Execution/choreography, quality of performance.
c. Stage presence and showmanship.
d. Length of show – deduct 1-30 points if over allotted time.
6. Bands, baton and any acts the judges feel are unsafe will not be allowed.
7. Apart from Piano, Organ and Drum set which shall be available at the venues, participants are expected to come with their instruments. Lighting and sound will be provided by the organizers.
8. A contestant 16 or over will receive one admission ticket to the show for the day(s) he or she performs. A contestant 15 and under will receive one admission ticket plus one for a parent or relative.
9. Contestant must perform different "material" each stage.
10. Top Ten contestants will perform twice during the final competition Saturday night.
11. Anyone working on the Talent Show committee and immediate family members cannot compete.
12. The Talent show committee has the right to disqualify a contestant from the show, for improper conduct.
13. The Talent Show Committee shall make the final ruling on deviation or conflict of the rules or a question that may arise that is not covered by these rules.
14. Contestants must be amateurs. No contestants will be considered if they have received a fee for performing the same type act performed in the talent   show.
15. The Folk Idols Africa Talent Show Committee is not responsible for theft/damage and/or injury to persons or personal property during before or after the performance.


CATEGORIES OF PERFORMANCE

A. VOICE with Accompaniment
Entries in this category includes:
I.   Vocal Solo accompanied by solo instrument e.g. flute, etc.
II. Vocal Solo accompanied by dual instrument.
III. Vocal Group accompanied by solo instrument.
IV. Vocal Group accompanied by dual instrument.
NB. Only Folk compositions by African composers are admitted, Keyboards are not admitted.

B. INSTRUMENTAL SOLO PERFORMANCE
Admitted in this sub-group are solo performers of
 1. Traditional instruments.
2. Local Guitars.
3. Talking drum, Bongos.
4. Xylophones. (African)
Duration for solo performance should be between 3 - 7 minutes.


C. INSTRUMENTAL GROUP PERFORMANCE
Entries in this category can be in any of these: 

I. Full Ensembles

II. Chamber (small) Orchestra with fewer instruments

III. Ensembles- duos, trios, quartets, quintets etc. 

NB. Only strings, woodwinds, and percussions instruments are admitted. A duo of two instruments may consist of two (homogenous or of different instrument) e.g. a flute and another instrument.
Duration of ensemble performances should be between 3 - 7 minutes.

D. TRADITIONAL MUSIC
1. Opera- With its Original instrumentation. (Music Dramas by African composers only)
2. Local chorus (Music by African composers only)
Duration:
Opera, not be more than 30 minutes.
Local chorus, 4 – 6 minutes

   Note:
·       Preliminary for Abuja audition comes up on 17th to 18th January, 2015.
·       Preliminary for Lagos audition comes up on 24th to 25th January, 2015.
·       Next stage audition for Abuja contestants comes up on 19th January, 2015.
·       Next stage audition for Lagos contestants comes up on 26th January, 2015.
·       All Ten finalists from Lagos and Abuja auditions to arrive Lagos on 29th January, 2015.
·       Grand finale on 31st January, 2015.
